Last night Dottie and I headed out to Velocity Sports Restaurant & Bar over in Falls Church, Va. the old Shark’s Club location. When I first stepped in, I thought to myself “this is a sports bar?” It actually looked more like a luxurious high end club with mahogany wood walls and more flat screen tv’s than a Best Buy display. The 8,000 sq. ft. layout was impressive, with 3 different bar areas, a raw bar, booths, dining areas and lounges. Velocity Five was definitely done up right and we were ready to start the night with some drinks and food.

Luckily for us, it was opening night and there was an open bar and buffet until 7:30. Even though we got there around 7:10 it was plenty of time to enjoy a few drinks and great food. Dottie’s sister, Abby (Abigail), is actually the manager of Velocity Five and we were spoiled the whole night. The head chef used to be the executive chef at Sweetwater Tavern down the street, naturally the food was delicious.

The owner is James Speros, a giant of an entrepreneur, former coach under Gibbs when they won the superbowl in 1982, and most importantly a graduate of St. John’s College High School in DC. He is a brilliant businessman and I plan on volunteering for one of his charities. I always give my highest praises to my fellow Cadets!

Other celebrities that made an appearance were Charles Mann and Doc Walker. I talked to Charles when he first came in and he is so much bigger in person … I’m only 5′6″ maybe that’s the reason.

Overall, it was a tremendous opening. Frankly, the place is so nice that I don’t mind driving all the way from Bowie just to enjoy some games. Warning – this place is not for average citizens. Velocity Five is smokin.
